Values and Vision
“Fed by compassion”. We believe that no one should go hungry. Since our inception in 1983, our purpose is to welcome, support, and feed our neighbors who are food and nutrition insecure. We value the essential dignity of each person who comes to our doorstep, as well as each volunteer who chooses to serve the community- recognizing the diversity of cultures and languages present in the East San Fernando Valley.
We seek to promote a foundation for reducing food waste that benefits those we serve, our community partners, and the world. We also encourage youth and young adults to work with us, to cultivate compassionate action and be educated about hunger in our community.
We network with other organizations in our community that may provide additional forms of assistance, including information about housing, health care and services for those experiencing homelessness. Originally established by a broad coalition of faith communities, we receive and treat everyone with respect regardless of religion, ethnicity, language, culture, or gender.
How Do I Get Food?
If you are in need, you qualify to receive a bag providing enough food for several days. Each bag contains cans of vegetables, fruit, protein, soup, cereal, rice, pasta, beans and peanut butter. Fresh fruit, bread, eggs, and vegetables when available.

Coming Together to Make a Difference
The Pantry was formed over 42 years ago by five extremely dedicated women from the East San Fernando Valley, who saw the growing problem of hunger right in their own back yards.

How It Began...
The Interfaith Food Pantry opened its doors on March 13, 1983 in a Sunday school room at First Christian Church with Temple Beth Hillel providing storage space for the food and packing. Today, these two congregations graciously continue to donate their space to the NHIFP. Find out how to get involved, hold food drives, offer donations or reach out to us at info@nhifp.org.
