The North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry is always delighted to have volunteers work on behalf of the organization. There are several ways to get involved:
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
FOOD DISTRIBUTION TEAM
To volunteer for packing or distribution of food please call (818) 760-3575 Monday or Friday between 8:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.
There are quite a few packing teams who pack and sort groceries at Temple Beth Hillel (basement). Dates and times for individual teams are arranged through the Packing Team Coordinator, Leslye Adelman. Please contact Leslye, our coordinator at the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved.
For Community Service, the program is on Tuesdays from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. Please contact Barbara Javitz, our coordinator at email@example.com.
The Transportation Team transports the loaded grocery bags from the packing site at Temple Beth Hillel to the food distribution site at First Christian Church. More than 100 people are involved in transportation services in any given year. If you are interested in volunteering for the Transportation Team, please contact Margaret at the above email address.
Transportation teams pickup Thursdays and Sundays using a provided truck. The entire process of transporting from 150 - 200 pre-packed bags of food takes about one hour to complete.
Thursday pickup teams generally operate between 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday pickup teams generally operate between 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
FOOD DISTRIBUTION TEAMS
The Food Distribution Teams are responsible for distributing food to our clients at First Christian Church. These teams work during our hours of operation on Mondays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please call a representative at 818-760-3575 during operation hours to get involved.
NHIFP COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
The Bagel Brigade is sponsored by B'NAI B'RITH of the Greater San Fernando Valley. Teams pick up leftover bread and baked goods from Valley bakeries, stores and Costco and deliver them to our distribution site at First Christian Church on Monday and Friday mornings.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Bagel Brigade, please contact Frank Shapiro at (818) 522-0832.
We currently work with several private and public schools within our greater community. We are happy to help organize drives or other ways to make a difference. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your contact info and we will be in touch.
Food Forward staff and volunteers rescue 353,000 pounds of surplus produce each week from fruit trees, farmers markets and the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. 100% of these fresh fruits and vegetables are donated to over 575 hunger relief agencies across 8 counties in Southern California of which the NHIFP is a partner and recipient. Website for information and to register your fruit trees for harvesting: foodforward.org
There are several churches and individuals who donate fresh vegetables and fruit from their gardens and yards. Currently, First Christian Church and the Unitarian Church have gardens whose yield is contributed to the clients of NHIFP.
We encourage anyone who wishes to donate fresh vegetables/fruit to the pantry to contact us @ (818) 760-3575 or email us email@example.com@gmail.com. Furthermore, if you wish to donate fruit from trees in your yard, you can bring it directly to the distribution site at
First Christian Church
4390 Colfax Avenue
(at the rear of the Church) from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays.
PLEASE NOTE THE ENTRANCE IS ON THE TROOST SIDE OF THE PARKING LOT ONLY! Or, you can contact the Food Forward organization to come and harvest the fruit for distribution.
